New Black Box Show

We’re going to make a new Black Box show. We’re not sure what just yet, but we’re itching to make another one, and it’s overdue. We’re thinking a Shakespeare adaptation might work: especially The Tempest. We’d like to incorporate animation somehow too this time…Arthur Rackham’s illustrations for the Charles and Mary Lamb series of Shakespeare adaptations are gorgeous, and so are Edmund Dulac’s… so collaborating with an animator is essential. More on this next year as we develop the ideas.

We’re yet to decide which text to adapt, but will try out options and possibilities in a series of R&D intensives in 2021 and 2022, and want to collaborate with a designer, musician, and animator.

The aim is to adapt a Shakespeare play (for the Black Box ‘cinematic’ format, and outdoor arts contexts), blending new and traditional Elizabethan theatrical technologies.

Co-production support is welcome and needed. Please get in touch if you think you can help us realise this project.
